Cheap Hound Dog HDP1-6 Hound Dog Products HDP1-6 Weed Hound

I got one of these almost twenty years ago from a local hardware store, and it still works like the day I brought it home. A little hard to use in rocky turf, the unit pulls out the weed with the tap root on most occasions. You have to locate the center of each plant and if you miss, it can be a little hard to re"grab" the dandelion, but 95% or more of the time it gets the whole thing. My hand gets a little sore from pounding the top to release the weeds after it's been dug up, and the weed piles multiply fast. Not hard to get a few hundred an hour, I paid my kids two cents for each one they got out and they went to lots of movies as they grew up.

The Hound Dog Products "Weed Hound" stand-up weeder pulls weeds by their roots quickly and easily! It requires no bending and no chemicals, making weeding easier both on you and on your garden. The weeder can also be used to aerate soil for a healthier lawn. Like all Hound Dog Products tools, the Weed Hound features durable steel construction and rust-proof finishes for long-lasting wear; its comfortable grips and upright design make gardening easier on your hands, knees, and back. It comes with a limited lifetime warranty.

Customer Reviews

Hound Dog Weed Hound - Kat Lover - Horseheads, NY
After reading so many positive reviews of this tool, I have to say that I was disappointed. We have had a very nasty invasion of dandelions this year and I really wanted to "go green" and avoid using any toxic chemicals. I waited until after 2 days of heavy rain to first use this new tool before attempting to remove the dandelions as suggested by many other reviewers. But I was very disappointed with the results. The Weed Hound was very easy to use - just place directly over the the center of the dandelion, push down with the foot, twist, and pull. But all I got was the green vegetation above ground and not the taproot. My little "hand weed tool" was successful in removing dandelions with the full taproot or at least 70 % of it about 50 % of the time. Unfortunately, the Weed Hound did not remove the taproots of the dandelions almost 100% of the time.

I hope that some other reviewers will have some suggestions for me to increase the effectiveness of this tool!

Great for dandelions! - A. Sanders -
The weed hound works great! I purchased a home not too long ago, and with it came a yard full of weeds. I don't think I'll ever catch up with the dandelions, but there's something mighty satisfying about plucking them roots and all from the earth with this tool. It doesn't require much effort to insert it into the ground and yank out a giant weed along with its roots. I'd recommend it to anyone who has dandelions and a bit of patience.

Hound Dog does dig - Richard D. Holdridge - Southern NM
This gadget actually does a good job at digging our weeds that are in grass such as dandelions. It worked very well for weeds with a shallower root. For deep roots, it still works but not as well.
