Are You Addicted to the Web?

Saturday, May 22, 2010

Do you spend more time on the Internet then you do with your family or friends? Would you rather post on Facebook on a Friday night then go out to the mall or movie with your pals? If so, you may be addicted to the web. It's not uncommon for people to do lots of things on the web. Some examples of things that you can do on the web that are actually convenient.

· Order food on the web and have it delivered.
· Place an order for a refill of medicine.
· Check your banking balance and/or pay some bills.
· Order a movie from Netflix and watch it on your TV
· Pick up a birthday gift for your niece and have it sent to her.
· Compare the prices of a particular item that you are thinking of purchasing.
· Keep in touch with high school buddies or college friends.

These are all good use of the web and there are tons more.

· Take an online class.
· Play a game with someone across the world.
· Order a duplicate birth certificate, license or social security card.

There are so many reasons why the Internet makes our life easier but let's keep in mind that if we are spending more time with our computer we may be neglecting someone that actually wants to spend time with us. Get out, take a walk, go to the actual movie theater, and buy some overpriced popcorn, live a little. Take your dog for a walk rather than just letting him run in the yard. Go the drugstore and buy a card for someone and then mail it to them. It's a thrill getting postal mail these days rather than an ecard.

Its' wonderful that we have high tech features that we are accustomed to but let's not forget the small things. Show your 5 year old how to ride a bike or go to a drive in movie. Some cities actually still have these. If you have a healthy balance between work and play you're fine but if you spend more time on the computer than you do with your spouse you may be headed into trouble. Just keep that in mind the next time you go to update your Facebook status. Even the sun can burn you if you get too much of it.
